Fast or Feast

I have so many thoughts circling around in my head these days. One of the biggest things is diet, weight, eating, health, longevity. Those are enough to fill a lifetime of thoughts and I hope I will. It's not only important to my own eating, but also something I hope to work on in a career at some point. This doesn't mean I'm a pro at fasting/feasting and eating well. Not by a long shot. I think I could challenge any other sugar addict by how much I want and end up eating the stuff. For me, it's especially chocolate. So, despite my own efforts to "go keto" and do "intermittent fasting" I kind of always thought it was so hard and I didn't know if it would work. I finally bit the bullet and got connected with a clinic that helps with this exact thing. In my mind they are the experts, but perhaps there are other organizations doing similar work. I love the explanations that I've read on their blog. It makes so much sense to me. Does one need t...

A Joyful Moment

A friend told me about this video. I've never watched this show, or any like it since Susan Boyle went viral on youtube. What was that - 2010? I was snuggling with Ruby and Abigail this morning after the kids had gone to school and the kitchen had been cleaned up (Check and check!). Usually Abby asks to watch Moana. So today I remembered this video and pulled it up to watch it. I was not prepared! This was a tear-jerker! Tears streaming! Sobbing! And I queued it up again because it was so good. There is something about the gratitude, humility, joy, this young tween shows. And she has beautiful talent and spirit that is amazing. It is exciting to see someone be victorious and humbled all at once. And her mom! Oh, her mom! I can only imagine. That must have been an incredible experience for this family and so special for her parents to be part of this. More videos like this, please.

A Date Makes Everything Better

On Saturday we went on a long date. We haven't been out for a while, which needs to be remedied. But as you will see, it's not easy to take off and enjoy alone time. Chris tried to plan a big weekend because there is a 10th anniversary coming up. 10th! That's a long time. It's funny because it seemed like by the time we would be married 10 years we would be "so settled." It doesn't quite feel that way yet, but we have definitely grown a lot in the last decade. Anyway, so our weekend trip changed to an over-nighter and then to a a day trip. We finally ended up leaving at 3:45 pm because of the girls' ballet performance and the master piano class that the kids have on Saturdays to get ready for the recital. Our schedule is pretty full and June has quite a few commemorative things like concerts, performances, end-of-the-year stuff. Our other obstacle is babysitters. There are many great teenagers out there. We will miss Amanda as she goes back to Braz...

Don't wait for everything to be perfect to enjoy your life.

Moving has been a big part of married life for me. In the past ten years we have moved nine times in five states. And before college and marriage my husband and I came from different states, as well. When people ask where we are from, I don't always know how much depth to go into. I can see how someone living in the same neighborhood they grew up in might feel a sense of curiosity as to what that is like because it has been an adventure. An amazing adventure! I can also attest to the longing to "put down roots," know people for years, see kids grow up with friends and family, and rarely need to go to the DMV. (California, you surpassed them all.) Having set holiday plans, family able to attend kids' events and knowing where you'll be on Sunday evenings would be comforting some times. The other side of that coin is that we know many beautiful people, maybe not as deeply or as long as I would like, but I am so grateful for each person we have met along th...
